The president and first lady joined an unlikely retinue of artists and performers Sunday night for the 35th annual Kennedy Center Honors. The members of Led Zeppelin, bluesman Buddy Guy, actor Dustin Hoffman, ballerina Natalia Makarova, and David Letterman rounded out this year’s selection of honorees. White House speechwriters found it difficult to segue from “ballet to Led Zeppelin,” President Obama noted in his preceremony remarks. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, comedian Stephen Colbert, and Aretha Franklin were among the evening’s VIP attendees.
