In 2006 and 2008, respectively, Robert Heishman and Michael Boles uncovered photographs that showcase Kansas City's underground drag ball scene in the 1950s and 1960s. Now, the duo has founded Private Birthday Party, a website dedicated to the city's longtime drag culture and the images celebrating it. Below, see highlights from the bygone party scene.
