A new report revealed the Texas jail where Sandra Bland was found dead last summer is in need of a new building as well as more expertise on mental health and anger management for its staff. The report, released Tuesday in the wake of Bland’s death, also recommended the sheriff’s office in Waller County develop a policy for storing surveillance footage and purchase body cameras at the jail in Hempstead. Bland’s case drew national attention after she was pulled over in July for a minor traffic violation and arrested after a confrontation ensued. The Chicago native, who was in the process of moving to Texas, was found hanged in her jail cell three days later. A medical examiner ruled it as a suicide, but circumstances surrounding her death sparked widespread backlash.
