Prosecutor Asks to Extradite Polanski

SURPRISING TWIST

From Poland to U.S.

A prosecutor in Poland on Tuesday sent a request to a regional court in Krakow to extradite Roman Polanski to the U.S. Polish officials this month questioned the director after receiving an extradition request from officials in Los Angeles. The director, who lives in France, has been in Poland preparing to shoot a new movie. Polanski pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 1977 but then fled the U.S. the following year. “The further actions in this case will depend on the court,” the prosecutors’ office said in a statement.
