Is this what a liberal Tea Party looks like? Madison, WI, is on the frontline of the government spending debate this week, as the state legislature votes on a bill Thursday—proposed by recently elected Republican Gov. Scott Walker—that would slash benefits for public-sector workers and reduce their collective bargaining rights. The state says it just can’t afford the old system. But workers in the historically labor-friendly state aren’t taking it sitting down, filling the capital to demonstrate against the bill. Schools in Madison had to cancel classes because so many teachers called in sick to lobby.
