Who says Halloween is all about scary movies? Animated Shrek spinoff Puss in Boots won the box office this weekend with $34 million, which was the best Halloween weekend debut ever. But some analysts had expected the film to earn more than $40 million, and its take may have been limited because of competing Halloween festivities. Paranormal Activity 3 took the second place spot with $18.5 million. Johnny Depp’s new film, The Rum Diary, the only other new film this weekend, underperformed with just $5 million and landed in fifth place.
