A new decree issued by Vladimir Putin will keep the deaths of special operations forces secret during peacetime, as Russia faces continued scrutiny for denying the presence of its troops in Ukraine. The announcement also states that information on people of interest to special forces may also be kept secret. Under the prior regulations, only wartime military deaths were classified. This is the latest crackdown on information about deaths of military servicemembers in Ukraine. Recently, a group representing soldiers’ mothers was deemed a “foreign agent” by the Kremlin.
