Qatar has agreed to extend travel restrictions on five former Guantanamo Bay detainees and Taliban leaders who were released in exchange for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl last year, a senior State Department official said Sunday. The news comes as a one-year deal to ban them from leaving Qatar was set to expire. White House officials are holding discussions to reach a longer-term agreement, according to the official. The five were freed in a deal that handed over Bergdahl to the U.S. after he spent five years in Taliban captivity. Qatar had agreed to take and monitor the five, banning them from leaving the country for a year.
