Quake Death Toll Climbs to 144

It looks like Christchurch will have to tear down as many as a third of its buildings before it can rebuild from Tuesday’s devastating 6.3 earthquake. It’s been 72 hours since any survivors were found and hope is fading that the 200 people still missing will be found alive. With a death toll already at 144, the country may be facing its biggest tragedy ever, said Prime Minster John Key, surpassing a 1931 quake that killed 256. Power has been restored to most of the city, but water continues to be a problem.
