Interview with the Queen's granddaughter, Olympic horsewoman Zara Philips, the non-working royal who seems to work harder than any of them, in the Daily Express this morning.
She reveals that the reason she was delighted to carry the Olympic torch around Cheltenham Racecourse was because she didn't think she was going to make the final Team GB equestrian squad. In the event, she produced an eye-catching performance in the very last Olympic trial to get the nod from the selectors for the final place in the team.
“I did think that day at Cheltenham might be the closest I got to London,” she says now.
Zara's mum, the Princess Royal, and dad, Captain Mark Phillips, are both Olympians. Mark won gold and silver as a member of the GB eventing team in Munich and Seoul, and this year he is helping prepare the US team for London 2012.
