Freshman Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib, who made a name for herself by saying “impeach that motherfucker” in the hours after taking office, has made the first step in her plan by formally submitting an impeachment resolution against the president. Only one other member’s name is given in support of the resolution—Democratic Rep. Al Green of Texas. The resolution directs the House Judiciary Committee to investigate whether Trump committed any impeachable offenses. Tlaib had been working behind the scenes to find more colleagues willing to sign the resolution and sent a letter this week to members of Congress who have previously hinted that they’re open to impeachment, according to CNN. She insisted that she’s not disappointed to only have the backing of one colleague and said she didn’t expect more. She said she wasn’t discouraged from pursuing her resolution, adding: “Not one single person told me not to do this, and I think that speaks volumes, more than whether or not they signed on.” Without leadership backing, the resolution is not expected to advance in the House.
