Freelance radio broadcaster Lisa Simeone, a host of Soundprint and World of Opera, was fired after Soundprint learned she was a spokeswoman for the Occupy D.C. protest. She had been speaking to media on behalf of the protests since early October. Simeone says she finds her firing “puzzling” because she is a freelancer and doesn’t cover politics. It was initially reported that NPR had a role in Simeone's firing, but they issued a statement saying that Soundprint is an independent public radio program and that Simeone will continue to host World of Opera.
