The Daytona 500 squealed to a halt, and was postponed Sunday for the first time in 54 years of racing due to rain that wouldn’t let up. The marquee NASCAR event is now slated to start at 7 p.m. Monday evening, according to NASCAR president Mike Helton. NASCAR has been desperate to get the race going since inclement weather Sunday blocked any chance for organizers to dry the track. By the time the sky began to clear around 5 p.m. Sunday, any chance of having the race had passed. NASCAR’s vice president of operations said that he’d be willing to hold the race under lights Monday night if necessary.
