A Women in the World conversation about the epidemic of mass rape in the Democratic Republic of Congo and other conflict zones. Watch the live-stream online Saturday, March 13 at 8:35 a.m. at thedailybeast.com.
On Saturday morning, three fierce advocates for peace will take the stage to discuss the violent rape used to break down women and families in war zones, and what measures can be taken to end it.
Dr. Denis Mukwege is on the ground in the Democratic Republic of Congo, repairing women’s torn bodies at the Panzi Hospital of Bukavu. Annie Rashidi-Mulumba, a woman born and raised in Congo, fights for legal justice for her countrywomen. Leymah Gbowee knows firsthand how women’s bodies and minds can be used as a powerful force for peace; she led a nationwide sex strike that helped bring an end to Liberia’s bloody civil war.
The discussion will be moderated by Christiane Amanpour, CNN chief international correspondent and host of Amanpour.
