Rape Victim’s Friend Talks Love Story

He was supposed to tutor her. The first time they met they went to McDonald’s. The Wall Street Journal has an interview with the man who was friends with the girl murdered in the brutal gang-rape in Delhi. He was also beaten, and now walks with a cane. While he thought they would forever just be friends (because of her lower caste), the two were essentially dating (he shared his Facebook password with her; they went to movies together). She called him a “perfect man.” When taking trips to Hindu temples together, they would share a hotel room, hug, and hold hands. The day of the tragic attack was “boring” at first he says—but five minutes after getting on the bus he knew something was wrong. Five days after the rape, when visiting her in the hospital, he apologized for “letting her down.” She said that if they had stayed by the fountain at the mall, like he wanted to, they may have missed the bus.
