The cult classic children’s TV show Reading Rainbow may be making a comeback. In just half a day, a campaign by former host LeVar Burton to raise $1 million on crowdfunding site Kickstarter reached its goal. In fact, by late Wednesday night, the campaign had hit $1.3 million and was still growing. Burton, who played Kunta Kinte on Roots and Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: The Next Generation, became famous with younger generations in the 1980s with the Emmy-winning show on PBS, which worked to increase literacy across the country. Among the rewards for his biggest donors on Kickstarter: a chance to wear Burton’s Star Trek visor.
