Rebekah Brooks received a £3.5 million severance package after she resigned as News International’s chief executive. Other figures that have resigned during the scandal will likely receive similar packages. These financial settlements include gag orders, which prevent the key players from talking about the inner workings of the company aside from at official inquiries. Brooks reportedly decided to quit after losing the support of Rupert Murdoch’s daughter Elisabeth, who said that Brooks had “f*****” the company.
