Witnesses among the Libyan rebels said Tuesday that rebel fighters had surrounded Col. Muammar Gaddafi's Bab al-Azizyah compound in Tripoli, but that Gaddafi's forces were making a strong stand. In tweets and grainy videos, the sources, who have been fairly reliable throughout the conflict, described the sounds of bombs and gunfire nearby, seemingly coming from both sides. It’s unclear if Gaddafi is in the compound—or still in Tripoli at all. Several witnesses said the rebels have attacked the doors of the compound. A rebel spokesman also told the BBC that they were hearing reports that Gaddafi forces were taking hallucinogenic drugs.
