At least no one punched anybody. Both the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays abandoned their benches in the fourth inning of a Friday night game at Fenway Park when Rays starter David Price hit Red Sox first baseman Mike Carp with two outs. Carp began walking toward the mound, at which point both teams swarmed onto the field and began pushing and shoving each other. A game of acting-manager hot potato also ensued after the Red Sox’s manager, John Farrell, was ejected after a first-inning incident between Price and David Ortiz. Bench coach (and then acting manager) Torey Lovullo was ejected from the game after a heated exchange in the fourth inning, followed shortly by Red Sox starter Brandon Workman and third base coach (and then acting manager) Brian Butterfield in the sixth. Sox hitting coach Greg Colbrunn ended up being the fourth and last acting manager of the night.
