An aide to Harry Reid said Sunday that the Senate majority leader would back the tentative debt deal that congressional Republicans and the White House had crafted. Democratic leaders said they were optimistic a vote on the debt deal would happen Sunday night. Reid met House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders Sunday afternoon to hammer out the details on the proposal the White House struck with the Republicans late Saturday night. Reid’s plan was rejected.
