Violence continued to tear apart the Nigerian countryside Wednesday as 11 more people were killed in a clash between Muslims and Christians. It began as Muslim herdsmen attacked a largely Christian village near the city of Jos, making it the second bloody assault in the region this month. Muslims from the Fulani ethnic group, armed with machetes, massacred hundreds in another predominantly Christian town nearby this month. The violence seems to be more about access to natural resources than religion, however. National authorities sent a mass text message denying the atrocities in an effort to calm people’s fears. "Please be informed that the story of Fulanis trooping into Lagos for the past three days to cause chaos is baseless," it read. "All security agencies have investigated this rumor individually and collectively and found that there's no iota of truth in it. Be advised to go about your lawful business without fear.”
