During the congressional hearing on white nationalism, Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) took a shot at Turning Point Communications Director Candace Owens’ previous remarks about Adolf Hitler. “Out of all the people the Republicans could have selected, they picked Candace Owens. I don’t know Ms. Owens, I’m not going to characterize her, I’m going to let her own words to the talking,” Lieu said, before playing a 30-second clip of her remarks. In the recording, Owens said the Nazi dictator was “OK” until he “wanted to globalize.” “If Hitler just wanted to make Germany great and have things run well, OK, fine,” she said.
When asked about the clip by Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA), Owens insisted that Lieu playing it was “unbelievably dishonest and he did not allow me to respond to it.” “[Hitler] was a homicidal psychopathic maniac that killed his own people,” she said. “A nationalist would not kill their own people.”
