The Amtrak train that derailed Monday morning in Washington state was traveling at more than twice the maximum speed allowed on a curve, The Seattle Times reports. The train was supposed to slow to 30 miles per hour when entering the curve where it crashed. Instead, the train was traveling approximately 80 miles per hour. The trip was the first on a new high-speed Amtrak route between Portland and Seattle. At least three people died in the crash, and more than 75 others were hospitalized.
