The Department of Homeland Security secretary, Kirstjen Nielsen, drafted a resignation letter and informed colleagues she was close to quitting after President Donald Trump publicly admonished her during a cabinet meeting, insisting she’d failed to secure the U.S. border, according to a New York Times report. Trump’s sharp rebuke was part of a “lengthy tirade” over what he said were the cabinet’s inadequate efforts to prevent undocumented immigrants from illegally crossing the border, the report says. At one point, he began yelling and said more needs to be done. “The president is committed to fixing our broken immigration system and our porous borders,” Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House press secretary, said Thursday. “We are a country of laws and the president and his administration will enforce them.’’
