Apparently, the truce was negotiated with Egypt’s help, though the terms and duration are unknown. Fighting began Monday, when Hamas’s military wing began firing dozens of rockets into Israel, injuring five. Israel quickly retaliated with “targeted attacks,” which killed four militants. Catherine Ashton, the EU’s foreign policy chief, is currently visiting the region in an attempt to revitalize the stalled peace attempts between Israel and the Palestinians.
