White House Chief of Staff John Kelly told President Donald Trump last week that Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt needs to step down amid a slew of negative reports, according to The Wall Street Journal. The source told the Journal that Kelly and “other White House aides” wanted Pruitt to leave, but “the president is not ready to fire him.” Kelly was reportedly concerned about reports on Pruitt’s “spending habits and management style.” Unnamed White House officials were also upset about Trump’s encouraging call to Pruitt earlier this week, a source told the newspaper. This comes after Trump sent a tweet Friday morning saying that Pruitt was doing “a great job” and was “TOTALLY under siege.”
