Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simon will resign in the wake of Larry Nassar’s 175-year sentence for sexual abuse. Nassar worked for the university and served as the team doctor for USA Gymnastics’ team. Simon’s resignation comes as the Michigan state legislature approved a resolution calling for her to step down. Those calls were joined by Michigan’s two U.S. senators, Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow. “As tragedies are politicized, blame is inevitable,” Simon said. “As president, it is only natural that I am the focus of this anger.”
