A recently released excerpt of the upcoming Politico e-book, Inside the Circus, reveals that Rick Perry has such a bad back that he had to rely on painkillers to stand throughout the many GOP debates. The revelation seems to suggest an explanation for Perry’s poor and sometimes strange debate performances, as well as an incident before the New Hampshire debate when Perry was heard singing “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad” while using the bathroom.
