President Trump reportedly seemed “grudgingly convinced” that Russians interfered the 2016 election when presented with evidence from intelligence officials in January last year. Sources at the Trump Tower intelligence briefing told The New York Times that Trump was briefed on “several” sources that confirmed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “own role” in the interference. Trump also was presented with “texts and emails from Russian military officers” and information from a “top-secret source” close to the Russian president. The report comes amid backlash over the president’s recent remarks noting Putin’s strong denial of interfering in the election and casting doubt on the the conclusions of his own intelligence community in front of the Russian president after Monday’s bilateral summit in Helsinki.
