President Donald Trump reportedly suggested that the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan be let go, due to his mounting frustration that the U.S. is “losing” the war there, NBC News reported. Trump reportedly suggested to Defense Secretary James Mattis and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford that Gen. John Nicholson be removed from his position. The White House has been mulling a new strategy in Afghanistan for months. NBC News reported that Trump recently “directed his frustration at Mattis” and said during a meeting, “We aren’t winning. We are losing.”
