The head White House lawyer told President Trump in January that then-national security adviser Michael Flynn misled the FBI and lied to Vice President Mike Pence, CNN reported on Monday. White House counsel Donald McGahn reportedly told Trump he did not think Flynn told the FBI the truth based on a conversation with then-acting Attorney General Sally Yates. McGahn's conversation with Trump could be influential in a possible obstruction-of-justice case against the president, since it raises questions about whether Trump knew about Flynn when he asked then-FBI director James Comey to drop its investigation into the ex-White House staffer.
