Republicans Drive Top TV Shows

Apparently our living rooms are as polarized as Congress. Republicans are more likely than Democrats to watch the biggest hit shows on television, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Of the top 10 TV shows in the spring, nine had higher percentages of Republican viewers than Democratic viewers. Conservatives strongly favor reality-competition shows, while liberals tend to favor shows like Mad Men (which did poorly among Republicans) that get critical acclaim but struggle for mass appeal. “Looking at the Democrats side, I don’t mean to make light of it, but they seem to like shows about damaged people,” said a marketing manager with Experian Simmons, which analyzed months of viewership data. “Those are the kind of shows Republicans just stay away from.”
