That was fast. National Republicans are backing away from Mark Sanford’s congressional campaign, a move that could potentially put the kibosh on the former South Carolina governor’s comeback bid. After news leaked Wednesday that Sanford’s ex-wife accused him of trespassing, the NRCC announced that it would not spend more money on Sanford’s campaign before the May 7 special election. Sanford is running against Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch, sister of comedian Stephen Colbert.
