Rescuers worked through the night Sunday to reach a miner caught in a cave-in more than a mile underground. The roof of a tunnel at the northern Idaho silver mine in Mullan collapsed while two brothers were working. One escaped, but the other did not. Hecla Mining Company said they were working non-stop to reach 53-year-old Larry Marek, a 30-year mining veteran. The collapse at the Lucky Friday mine occurred late Friday afternoon, and there's been no contact with Marek so far. Hecla paid $177,500 in fines for violating federal clean water laws at Lucky Friday in 2009, but the company appears to have a good record on safety at the mine.
