Rex Aide: Trump, Tillerson Disagreed on Charlottesville Response

President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson have merely “expressed different points of view” on the white-supremacist-fueled deadly violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, a unnamed Tillerson aide told CNN on Monday. “[Tillerson] isn’t being critical, but more so reestablishing without confusion what are known American values,” the aide said. “Did [Trump] do the best job ever responding to Charlottesville? Nope. But that doesn’t mean America changes.” Trump has been criticized for seeming to suggest a moral equivalence between the white supremacists and counterprotesters. On Sunday, Tillerson appeared to distinguish the president’s values from American values, saying only: “The president speaks for himself.”
