Rhode Island is en route to becoming the ninth state to legalize marriage for same-sex couples. On Wednesday, the state Senate voted 26 to 12 in favor of a bill for marriage equality after 90 minutes of debate. The House Judiciary Committee will likely argue the bill next Tuesday and could vote soon after that week. If approved, same-sex couples would be allowed to wed as early as August 1.
