Brigitte Bardot, Ella Fitzgerald, and Elizabeth Taylor are just a few of the countless legendary faces that served as inspiration for fashion photographer Richard Avedon. After a brief stint in London, Gagosian in Beverly Hills will feature the retrospective Richard Avedon: Women, the artist’s first solo exhibition in the area since 1976. Through his work for Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue, Avedon radically changed the face of fashion photgraphy. His minimalist style permitted his subjects to move freely and comfortably, allowing for spontaneity and intimacy within his images. The immense exhibition, on display through December 21, includes over 400 photographs, prints, and transparencies of the photographer’s subjects throughout his six-decade career. See highlights here.
