Rick Perry's Slide Continues

Campaign meltdown

His poor debate performance was "staggering"

If Rick Perry was looking to renew his flailing presidential campaign, it didn't happen at Tuesday night's debate. In fact, writes Salon's Steve Kornacki, the Texas Governor was more of an "afterthought" in the proceedings, with moderators giving most of the attention to Mitt Romney and Herman Cain. When Perry did get to answer questions, he resorted to "issuing dull, vague responses that seemed designed mainly to run out the clock." He didn't make a fool of hiimself, per se, but if he wants to win back the trust of the GOP base at this point, he'll need to do better than that. The Bloomberg debate may have marked the beginning of the end for the candidate.
