Rip Torn Arrested for Breaking into Bank

Actor Rip Torn was arrested for allegedly breaking into a bank with a loaded revolver, while drunk, in Salisbury, Connecticut, Friday night. Law enforcement officials believe Torn got in by breaking a window. The alarm sounded at 9:40 p.m. at the Litchfield Bancorp building, where Torn was found “highly intoxicated.” He was taken to jail in North Canaan and is being held on $100,000 bond. The actor was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespass, and third-degree criminal mischief, and is scheduled to appear in court February 1. This is not Torn’s first alcohol-related arrest.
