When Allen West isn't outing Communist members of Congress, he loves to accuse President Obama and other Democrats of imposing slavery through things like "handouts" to less fortunate Americans, even proclaiming himself "a modern-day Harriet Tubman" on at least one occasion. This week, the Florida senator told a local TV news station of President Obama, "He does not want you to have the self-esteem of getting up and earning and having that title of American. He'd rather you be his slave." Such claims are hardly out of West's wheelhouse, yet when RNC chair Reince Priebus was confronted by CNN's Wolf Blitzer about the Republican's drastic claims, Priebus had little to say, insisting that he's "not the police officer of the Republican party." In fact, Priebus said that what he's "more embarrassed about is the president that can't keep a promise," than West's slavery comments. "Allen West is one of the most dynamic new Republican stars in our party," he said.
