At a raucous meeting in Toronto City Hall on Monday, council members voted decisively to strip Rob Ford of many of his powers—slashing the mayor’s budget and placing staffing decisions in the hands of the deputy mayor, among other actions. During the meeting, Ford, who has admitted to smoking crack while in office, went back and forth with members of the public in the audience and also knocked down Councillor Pam McConnell. Adding to the scene, Ford’s brother got into a verbal spat with a member of the audience. Ford has previously defended himself, saying he is not an addict, and has expressed a firm commitment not to resign.
