Toronto’s crack-smoking mayor Rob Ford has withdrawn his name from the Toronto mayoral race—but not because of drug abuse. On Friday, Ford’s campaign submitted paperwork to take his name off the ballot and put his brother Doug on it following the mayor’s hospitalization for a tumor this week. “As many of you know I’ve been dealing with a serious medical issue, the details of which are unknown,” Ford said in a statement. Doug Ford suggested the tumor might be cancerous, saying the mayor may be facing “surgery and chemotherapy and could be on his back for six to eight weeks.” Strangely, the medical issue isn’t so serious as to keep Rob Ford from running for his old city-council seat though: He submitted that paperwork on Friday.
