Robert Durst Faces Murder Charge

Extradited from New Orleans by summer.

Real-estate scion Robert Durst will be extradited to California from Louisiana to face a murder charge in the 2000 death of a longtime friend, officials said Tuesday. Durst, who faces a firearms charge in New Orleans, will be arraigned in the death of writer Susan Berman in Superior Court in Los Angeles by Aug. 18, 2016, District Attorney Jackie Lacy said. Durst has been in a Louisiana jail since he was arrested in March. An HBO series that chronicled several investigations involving Durst, including the death and dismemberment of his Texas neighbor in 2003 and the 1982 disappearance of his wife in New York, suggested that he killed Berman. The final episode, which presented evidence that his handwriting appeared to match that of Berman’s likely killer, aired the day after his arrest.
