The distinguished former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has been named president-elect of the Boy Scouts of America on Wednesday. If approved, this means Gates will become national president of the organization in May of 2014. A Distinguished Eagle Scout in his own right, Gates will be overseeing an organization that has come under fire the past few years for stances widely viewed as anti-gay. What will be interesting to see will be how Gates, who supported ending the ban on gays serving openly in the military, handles the issue for the BSA.
