Robert Redford has confirmed that he will be retiring from acting after the completion of this upcoming film The Old Man & the Gun, Entertainment Weekly reports. The 81-year-old Oscar-winning director, who starred in films like The Sting, The Way We Were, All the President’s Men and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, said he was retiring because he’s “been doing it since I was 21.” “Never say never, but I pretty well concluded that this would be it for me in terms of acting,” he said. “I thought, ‘Well, that’s enough.’ And why not go out with something that’s very upbeat and positive?” Redford got his big break starring opposite Paul Newman in 1969’s Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Redford is also co-founder of the Sundance Film Festival. When asked if he’ll be directing future projects, he said, “We’ll see about that.”
