Andy Roddick left the French Open with a whimper Saturday, losing to an unheralded qualifier from Russia in the third round. Teimuraz Gabashvili, ranked 114th in the world, took down the tournament’s sixth seed and the top American player in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2. Clay court tennis has never been Roddick’s biggest strength, but even so, the result was a shock around Roland Garros. On the women’s side, top seed Serena Williams almost met the same fate after struggling against No. 29 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. But she recovered in time to win 6-1, 1-6, 6-2.
