Two years after taking office, Rome mayor Ignazio Marino has resigned following a scandal over his use of government money to pay for expensive restaurant bills. The mayor has come under fire in the past for unpaid parking tickets and a corruption scandal involving his predecessor. Though he offered to pay back the €20,000, Marino was effectively forced out when his Democratic Party ended its support for him.
