Mitt Romney took the stage at the Tea Party Express rally in New Hampshire on Sunday night—despite the fact that some Tea Party groups had withdrawn to protest his appearance. Led by FreedomWorks, several Tea Party groups even organized a protest of Romney’s speech, but only a dozen or so people turned up. Romney’s poor standing with some Tea Party groups is largely attributable to the health-care plan he passed as governor of Massachusetts. Romney has stepped up his efforts to woo the Tea Party in recent days; on Monday he’ll face the Tea Party again in South Carolina at Sen. Jim DeMint’s candidate forum.
