With a support structure of big donors, Mitt Romney’s campaign along with outside GOP groups hold a $46 million advantage over the president’s reelection campaign. Obama has raised more individually, and set a record for most individual donors, but doesn’t have the money behind him that his Republican contender has. Fundraising has reached astronomical proportions this election cycle: between the candidates and political parties behind them, nearly $2 billion has been raised through the end of September.
