He can pay for his own protection, thank you.

Ron Paul doesn’t need Secret Service protection. Jay Leno asked the Libertarian Tuesday night why he turned down the offer to have the government’s security detail follow him around on the campaign trail. It’s a form of welfare, he explained. “You’re having the taxpayers pay to take care of somebody,” he said, noting that it costs the government more than $50,000 a day to protect his fellow candidates. “I’m an ordinary citizen and I would think I should pay for my own protection.”
